What is the difference between an attic fan and whole house fan?

Attic fans help prevent the transfer of heat from a hot attic to the living space below. An attic fan is installed in the attic and blows hot air from the attic out through a roof-level vent. Using an attic fan can reduce the temperature in the attic by up to 50 degrees and reduce the temperature by as much as 10 degrees in the living space below the attic.

A whole house fan is installed in the ceiling, usually in a central location. The fan draws in cooler evening air through open windows and pulls warm air from the home’s living space, blowing it into the attic. Whole house fans can provide 30 to 60 air changes per hour depending on the home’s floor plan, the climate, and fan size. This results in enough air to cool a home in approximately one hour. Once the sun rises and outdoor temperatures increase, the fan is shut off and the windows are closed to preserve the cooler air until the evening.

That’s the difference between an attic fan vs whole house fan.

A VentCool whole house ventilation fan will cool your home naturally by pulling in cool air from open windows and exhausting hot air through the attic and roof. Used when the outside air is cooler than inside air, a whole house cooling fan is effective in increasing ventilation, promoting cooling and saving energy dollars.

Some of the benefits and features of a VentCool whole house ventilation fan include: reduced energy bills and utility costs, ultra-quiet operation, convenient timer settings, can be used to comply with 2016 Title 24 Part 6, maximum energy efficiency and wall mounted or remote control switch.
