Technology
Air Purification Technologies for Particles, Germs, and Gases
The TRIO Pro commercial air purifiers beyond the HEPA filtration, utilizing three state-of-the-art technologies.
- H13 HEPA filtration, captures greater than 99.97% 0.3-micron particles down to 0.1-micron
- UVC germicidal lamps neutralize bacteria, viruses, and fungi
- PRO-Cell™ technology breaks down odors and VOCs into harmless chemical
Purifying the three different aspects of poor air – Particles, Germs, and Gasses requires multiple purification technologies.
Field Controls’ air purifiers are unique in that they utilize three key technologies to purifier all three aspects of poor air where competitors only capture particles.
H13 HEPA Filter – Captures Particulate Matter (PM)
- TRIO Pro is equipped with an H13 HEPA filter which is a “high efficiency particulate air” filter, for removing at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, and any airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns.
- HEPA filters are effective in capturing particles, but not capable of filtering chemicals or gases and some biologicals are small enough to pass through HEPA filters.
- Field Controls independently tests high quality HEPA filters and has demonstrated a higher capture rate than standard HEPA
- 99.98% @ 01.-0.3 mircon particles
- >99.99 @ 0.2-0.3 micron particles
UVC Technology – Neutralizes Germs, Viruses, Bacteria, and Fungi*
- Germs can pass through filters due to their size (viruses are 0.004-0.3 microns) and HEPA filters are certified to capture 0.3 microns.
- UV-C has been effectively used for decades to reduce the spread of germs, sterilization, and cleaning.
- UV-C inactivates microorganisms by disrupting the DNA, rendering them harmless.
- The FDA, CDC, and ASHRAE all state UV-C’s effectiveness in reducing transmissions.
PRO-Cell Technology – Breakdown Chemicals and Gases
- Gases, chemicals, and VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) can emit into the air from products or processes such as building materials, home and personal care products, and can be harmful to our health. Because they are gases, they are not trapped by a mechanical filter, and pass through HEPA filters.
- The PRO-Cell™ is Field Controls’ proprietary technology to eliminate hazardous chemicals, gases, and odors that pass through HEPA filters.
- PRO-Cell technology is a Titanium Dioxide (Ti02) filter that when energized by the powerful ultraviolet (UVC) light, creates a chemical reaction breaking down contaminants (chemicals, gases, and biologicals) into H2O and CO2.

FAQs
- Why do I get a funny odor from my TRIO Plus unit?
- First, check to make sure that all packaging has been removed from the TRIO Pro. This includes the protective padding behind the UVC lamps. Second, some new filter can product a different odor initially; however, this will go away within a couple of days.
- How often should the filter be replaced?
- The pre-filter screen is reusable and can be washed and vacuumed to remove large particulates that build up. The H13 HEPA and activated carbon filters should be replaced after about 2,000 hours or every 6 months of operation depending on the environment. If the area the unit is running in sees high amounts of air contaminants, the filters may require changing more frequently.
- How often should the UVC lamp be replaced?
- We recommend the lamp be replaced every 12 months for optimal performance.
- How do I size a TRIO Pro for a room’s size?
- Sizing for a room depends on how many air changes per hour you need. The TRIO Pro has a high airflow making it a great solution for large and high occupancy spaces. In one hour, it can exchange the volume of air in a 4,800 sq. ft. room, 3 times the volume of air in 1,600 sq. ft., and 5 times the volume of air in a 970 sq. ft. room.
-
- 1 Air change per hour 4800 ft² (446 m²) (69 ft x 69 ft)
- 2 Air changes per hour 1600 ft² (102 m²) (40 ft x 40 ft)
- 5 Air changes per hour 970 ft² (90 m²) (31 ft x 31 ft)

Maintenance Schedule
Getting Started - Maintenance Video Introduction
Product manager Gareth Lewis demonstrates maintenance for your TRIO Pro Commercial Air Purifier.
Note
To increase the life of the air purifier, perform regular maintenance and care. Before performing maintenance, be sure to shut down the air purifier and unplug the power plug from the power source.
HEPA filters and activated carbon filters are best replaced every 3 to 6 months, depending on the use situation. High-efficiency HEPA filters will likely capture more particles, and require replacement earlier than if the purifier was run at low speeds, filtering less air.
We recommend the UVC lamps be replaced every 12 months. TRIO even alerts you when it needs maintenance. The LED indicator on the control panel lights up red every 12 months.
Cleaning of the Air Purifier
- Clean the air purifier once a month. If the operating environment is poor, increase the cleaning frequency.
- Before cleaning, turn the air purifier off and unplug from the power source.
- When cleaning or servicing the air purifier, use OSHA approved safety glasses, glove, and mask.
- Clean the air purifier with soft, dry cloth. Do not use alcohol, gasoline, benzene, or other chemical solvents for cleaning.
Replacing the TRIO Pro Filters
How Often To Replace the TRIO Pro Filters
The filter indicator on the control panel will blink indicating the filters require inspection and/or replacement. It is recommended the pre-filter screen be inspected every 2 months. When there is dust on the surface of the pre-filter screen, remove it with dust collector to extend the usage period of the filter. The filters should be replaced every 6 months. However, the life of the filter may differ according to the degree of pollution in the environment.
