Highlights of the Fresh Air Dampers

  • MORTORIZED: 24VAC power-open, power-close air damper
  • CONTROL: Typically controlled by the FAVC Ventilation Control to meet ASHRAE 62.2 and other fresh air ventilation codes
  • MATERIALS: Stainless steel with tear-resistant closed-cell foam rubber seal
Features of the Fresh Air Dampers

The Fresh Air Damper (FAD) is a 24VAC power-open, power-close motorized air damper designed for installation in a fresh air ventilation duct connected to an outdoor air intake hood and a duct fan or the HVAC return plenum, to control the flow of fresh air into the home.

The fresh air damper is typically controlled by the FAVC Ventilation Control to meet ASHRAE 62.2 and other fresh air ventilation codes and standards, but may also be used in a stand-alone application for either passive or fan-induced fresh air for ventilation or makeup air applications. The FAD has very low power requirement and air flow resistance.

The body and gate are constructed of stainless steel. Features include a tear-resistant closed-cell foam rubber seal tested 500K+ cycles. Seal flammability meets FMVSS-302. Motor and circuit board certified 100K+ cycles.

How to size a fresh air intake damper?

Select the size of the Fresh Air Damper (FAD) based on the continuous ventilation CFM requirement multiplied by 3 and adjusted for the actual fresh air ductwork installation parameters to allow the FAVC system to operate 10 minutes on every 30 minutes. Refer to our Residential Ventilation Guide on FAD sizing. Rule of Thumb Method may be appropriate for homes with average duct runs up to 15 ft. with mid-range static pressure. We recommend that you double check your results using the standard method illustrated in our Residential Ventilation Guide. It’s important to size the damper and system to meet ASHRAE 62.2.
